News has just broken that Frasers Group has acquired Matchesfashion for a sum slightly north of £50m. The deal brings another high-ticket fashion operation to the conglomerate, which has been steadily making key acquisitions. Matches has customers in 150 countries around the world in addition to those in the UK.
Former Asos CEO Nick Beighton has headed Matchesfashion for the past year and has been making good progress. However, like other players in the luxury segment, it has experienced a slowdown in demand.
More details about the deal and what it means for the employees of MatchesFashion will be revealed soon but the first to jump ship is unsurprisingly commercial director Carl Tallents. Tallents had joined Matchesfashion last year from Frasers brand Flannels where he had held the role of head of brands.
