The Body Shop edges towards administration

Once lauded by generations of consumers as the forerunner of today’s proliferation of cruelty free and vegan beauty product brands, The Body Shop International Ltd has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators.

Founded in 1976 from very humble premises in Brighton, the business was first acquired from the founders Anita and Gordon Roddick by L’Oreal, who later went on to sell it to Natura, who, in turn, sold it last November to Aurelius.

With some 900 stores and around 7000 staff members, the business trades in 89 countries through its own stores and via franchisees. It had also operated Body Shop at Home, initially as a party-plan-based initiative involving individual self-employed agents selling on commission.

FRP Advisory have been lined up to take control and manage a sell-off of stock and the closure of The Body Shop’s stores.
