Debenhams Group sells Nasty Gal for $16m

Debenhams Group has sold fashion brand Nasty Gal for $16m in cash, as it continues to reshape the business around a capital-light, marketplace-led model.

The brand has been acquired by US-based WSG Brands, with proceeds from the sale set to strengthen Debenhams Group’s balance sheet.

Nasty Gal generated around £12m in gross merchandise value and £0.4m in adjusted EBITDA during the group’s 2026 financial year.

Debenhams Group said the brand was no longer considered core to its strategy.

The disposal is the latest step in the transformation of the business formerly known as Boohoo Group, which has been moving away from the inventory-heavy model traditionally associated with online fashion retail.

Its strategy increasingly centres on Debenhams and a marketplace model which enables third-party brands to sell through the platform without the group having to own all of the inventory itself.

The Nasty Gal sale follows the recent £90m disposal of the group’s Sheffield distribution centre, providing further cash as the business simplifies its operations.

Debenhams Group continues to own brands including boohoo, boohooMAN, Karen Millen and PrettyLittleThing, while positioning Debenhams as the centre of its wider marketplace strategy.
