News roundup—Redcats redundancies, plus French Connection, more

  • Redcats UK will cut up to 130 call centre and
warehouse jobs because of poor sales, according to the Wakefield
    Express.
The news comes several days after French parent
company PPR announced that it was looking into
selling or spinning off its retail divisions, which include the
catalogue division. Redcats UK’s titles include La
    Redoute
    and Vertbaudet.

  • Thanks in large part to currency gains, sales at fashion
brand French Connection for the past 16 weeks
were up 8 percent from the same period of last year, according to
    This Is London.
Like-for-like European sales increased a scant 0.3 percent,
with much of that down to a “strong performance”
    from catalogue brand Toast.

  • General merchandise mailer Coopers of
    Stortford
is investing £6.4 million in a
68,000-sq-ft purpose-built distribution centre in Braintree. The
company’s head office will remain in Bishops Stortford.

  • In other warehouse news, multititle mailer
Findel will be moving into a custom-built,
213,000-sq-ft distribution centre in Burnley late next year,
    reports The Business
    Desk.
