- TV-shopping business Ideal Shopping Direct is to buy plants
and garden equipment retailer Lead the Good Life (LTGL) for
£5 million. LTGL, which operates GardenBargains.com, was
founded by Ideal’s nonexecutive chairman Paul Wright and
nonexecutive director Valerie Kaye along with Peter McDermott in
February 2008. Following completion of the acquisition, McDermott
will stay with the business as a director of LTGL.
In its first period of trading-the 17 months to 30th June
2009-audited accounts show Lead the Good Life made a pretax
profit of £730,447 on turnover of £5.8 million. - Components manufacturer and distributor Plastic Parts Centre
will rebrand and change its name to Moss Express, effective 4th
January 2010. The new moniker will bring the UK business in line
with the name it uses in mainland Europe. - More of us are expected to shop online this Christmas Day
than last year according to IMRG. It predicts that 4.3 million
online shoppers will spend an average of £27.90 each on
Christmas Day, totalling £120 million. Boxing Day is once
again predicted to be the busiest online shopping day of the
year. The Guardian reports on the expected sales
frenzy. - And if you’re still waiting for your pre-Christmas purchases
to arrive, you might be out of luck. The recent snow and icy
conditions on the roads are disrupting deliveries, reports the
Daily Mail, which also includes a handy
“have you left it too late?” table for anyone wanting to make a
few last-minute buys.
