News roundup–N Brown buys Figleaves, more


N Brown Group, the multibrand cataloguer best
known for plus-size titles Simply Be and
grey-market catalogues including JD Williams,
has bought the entire share capital of lingerie etailer
Figleaves for £11.5 million. In a company
statement, N Brown said the acquisition will broaden its appeal
to a “younger and a more ‘premium’ demographic
group”. N Brown will be working with Figleaves’ existing
management team. For the year to June 2010, Figleaves is forecast
to generate turnover of £23 million.

TV-shopping business Ideal Shopping Direct says
trading for the 21 weeks to 30th May has been
“strong” with its recently acquired Lead The
Good Life
business up 17.9 percent on the same period
last year. Excluding LTGL, group sales increased by 10.5 percent.
On the back of this performance, Ideal is expecting to report
“a substantial profit” in the first half of
2010.

French catalogue 3 Suisses is baffling
fashionistas with its high-fashion revamp thanks to designer Karl
Lagerfeld, who collaborated with the catalogue on a range of
garments. According to an article in the Independent, the move to designer labels
echoes that of competitor La Redoute, which
commissioned several edgy designers to contribute to its
ranges.
