Alice.com, a US-based online marketplace selling everyday
household goods such as washing powder, toiletries and cleaning
products, has merged with Spanish online start-up Koto.com. The
merger will allow manufacturers of consumer packaged goods to
reach a global audience through the Alice.com website, mobile app
and via its Facebook platform in the US and Europe. Customers
will benefit from Alice’s offer of free shipping, instant
coupons, and automatic product reordering.
Alice will establish a Madrid office and rebrand Koto.com as
Alice.es by the end of the third quarter, 2011. Ignacio Somalo,
former chief executive of Koto.com becomes European president to
lead the Madrid office. Alice sites for Germany, France, Italy
and the UK will launch in 2012 and 2013.
