US book retailer Barnes & Noble is ramping up its overseas
presence by signing up new retail partners in the UK. The
bookseller has teamed up with Dixons to sell its Nook e-readers
through PC World and Currys stores as well as online. The
partnership takes the number of retail outlets to more than 1,600
in the UK, and precedes the launch of Barnes & Noble British
online storefront at nook.co.uk.
To further drive expansion outside of the US, Barnes & Noble has
appointed Patrick Rouvillois as managing director of its
international business. Rouvillois joins from French retailer
Carrefour, where he was global chief marketing officer and head
of ecommerce.
In related news, Canadian brand Kobo, now owned by Japanese group
Rakuten, partnered with the Booksellers Association of the UK &
Ireland to sell its ereading platform via the association’s 3,000

registered users worldwide, further strengthen its foothold
within the UK by adding to its existing relationship with the
likes of Argos, Asda, Currys, Dixons, John Lewis, Staples,
WHSmith and its already established network of 1,100 stores and
