In all the excitement over Black Friday, Cyber Monday bargains are in danger of being overlooked: but the e-commerce delivery experts ParcelHero says Cyber Monday is set to fight back hard this year with record sales of over £1bn in the UK alone.
Says ParcelHero’s David Jinks ‘The online only Monday sales event may have been overshadowed by Black Friday; but many online retailers have decided that resistance is far from futile and are keeping some hot deals up their sleeve.’
Explains David: ‘Last year, UK shoppers splashed £968m on Cyber Monday deals. That’s not quite as much as the £1.1bn spent on Black Friday – but it’s considerably more than the £720m spent on Cyber Monday 2014, and is set to rise significantly this year. ‘
- This year UK Cyber Monday sales will comfortably top the £1bn mark. Consumers are realising that the – legally binding – 14-day no-quibble returns guarantee for online purchases makes buying online on Cyber Monday a better bet than fighting in store on Black Friday.
- Under the Consumer Rights Act, store bought items are only returnable if they are faulty (unless the retailer chooses to offer a better returns deal). That makes Black Friday shop deals far less attractive.
- In the USA Cyber Monday could delete Black Friday entirely. In 2015 it made $2.28bn; exterminating Black Friday’s $1.096. And Adobe Digital Insights are predicting it could reach $3.36bn this year
- The US is pointing the way forward for Cyber Monday. As UK customers turn against battling the crowds to win supposed bargains in stores – only to find over half have been sold cheaper in the months immediately before and after Black Friday, according to Which? – Cyber Monday will eventually win this galactic scale shopping war.
