Mothercare has advised 200 staff that their roles are effectively redundant as the business restructures for survival. Around 50 new roles are being created by the beleaguered retailer which is also planning to close 60 stores and reduce staff numbers by a further 900. Mothercare which was formerly the ‘go to’ retailer for everything needed by mothers to be and their children has faced mounting competition from online rivals as well as the extended ranges now offered by most supermarkets.
