A quarter of men still hunting for presents on Christmas Eve

A quarter of British men will still be shopping for presents as shops are preparing to close on Christmas Eve, latest research reveals, as the nation prepares for a last-minute dash to the shops this weekend.

The Showcase Cinemas study revealed that 25 per cent of men will head to the high street on Sunday around 4pm compared to just 13 per cent of women – who typically buy their gifts ahead of time.

According to the research, partners (30 per cent) are the most difficult loved one to buy for, followed by dads (20 per cent), mums (18 per cent) and siblings (12 per cent).

Elsewhere, the nationwide poll of Brits found nearly a quarter of people (23 per cent) buy loved ones presents that are actually for themselves, with the same number admitting they are more tempted to purchase a gift that they’ll benefit from too.  Vouchers and gift cards (46 per cent) were revealed as the perfect Christmas present.

Jon Dixon, UK marketing director at Showcase Cinemas, said: “Christmas is renowned for being the most wonderful time of the year, but there’s no doubt we all experience the stresses of last-minute shopping as we get nearer to the big day.

“We’re hoping our gift cards can help take away some of those stresses and provide the perfect gift for film lovers and cinemagoers across the nation, while also allowing the buyer to bag a cheeky bonus for themselves. What could be better than giving the gift of film (and tasty cinema snacks) this Christmas?!”
