Affiliate network Buy.at and WAYN (Where Are You Now?), the
travel and lifestyle social networking site, have developed a
means for social network users to make money from their online
profiles. The agreement between the companies enables WAYN’s UK
members to develop a fully customisable “web shop” as
part of their profiles. They create wish lists of products they
would like to own or recommend to others and display these to
other users. When contacts or random browsers buy from their web
shop, the members will receive commission from WAYN.
WAYN members will use a wizard linked to Buy.at’s technology to
customise the layout of their wish list. When browsers click on
an item they are taken to the advertiser’s website to pay for it;
Buy.at tracks and manages the transaction. Members can access
data showing the revenue generated by their profile.
London-headquartered WAYN has more than 10 million members
worldwide in more than 200 countries. Twelve months ago it raised
$11 million in Series A funding from investors including
Lastminute.com founder David Soskin and Hugo Burge of
Cheapflights.com. Since December 2006 its audience has grown by
80 per cent.
