Aldi has announced it is giving its store and distribution workers a 10 per cent Christmas bonus.
Aldi said the move was “a thank you” to its 35,000 employees who “have worked tirelessly on the frontline” throughout the year.
The news follows Sainsbury’s announcement last week that it would be giving a 10 per cent Christmas bonus to its permanent workers across it stores and distribution centres (see Direct Commerce news story).
Giles Hurley, chief executive officer, Aldi UK and Ireland said: “This year has been a difficult one for so many and our colleagues have worked tirelessly to ensure the nation continues to have access to high-quality affordable food. This bonus is a gesture of our appreciation for our amazing Aldi colleagues who have shown incredible resilience and dedication throughout 2020.”
