Alibaba buys stake in Chinese retail chain

Alibaba has made an investment valued at more than £2.8 billion to acquire a 19 per cent stake in Chinese electronics retail chain Suning, with Suning reciprocacting by acquiring a 1.1 per cent stake in Alibaba for £1.45 billion.  Suning operates a chain of 1600 stores in China and its logistical capabilities will be able to support Alibaba’s goal to improve national delivery times to customers. Suning will open a store on Tmall.com with focus on home appliances and consumer electronics.
