Amazon claims its biggest ever global shopping event

This year’s Prime Day saw one million deals worldwide offered exclusively to Amazon Prime members with sales surpassing Cyber Monday, Black Friday and the previous Prime Day, when comparing 36 hour periods, making 2018’s the biggest shopping event in Amazon history. Prime members worldwide purchased more than 100 million products with best selling products revealed as the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and Echo Dot which also made this the biggest event ever for Amazon devices.

In the US, for the first time, a week of savings was offered at Whole Foods Market; and small and medium-sized business sellers on Amazon raked in over US$1bn in sales. Amazon UK also clocked up sales of more than a quarter of a million items of clothing – from its own brand ranges as well as from global brands including Vans, Puma and New Balance.

In the UK, overall top sellers were a Bosch Cordless Drill, Philips Hue Personal Wireless Lighting Light strip, and Finish dishwasher tablets.
