Amazon is to lease 304,700 sq.ft. of warehousing on the Brooklands Industrial Estate in Weybridge, Surrey, which was previously used by Tesco, from September. In addition it has contracted to lease a further 257,000 sq.ft. distribution building in Bardon, Leics. Both premises have planning for food distribution. It is being suggested that the two facilities will provide Amazon with the bases for the launch of its Amazon Fresh delivered grocery offering, a service which has proved successful in the USA. Amazon is not commenting on this speculation.
The premises are owned by Logicor from which Amazon already leases premises in Rugeley, Staffs. Managing Director UK for Logicor, Charlie Howard said “We are delighted to support Amazon’s expansion of their UK distribution network. Both Bardon and Weybridge provide excellent strategic access to a high proportion of the Population. These leases also strengthen our existing relationship with Amazon in the UK and Europe.”
