For the 13 weeks to 30 August, like for like sales at Argos rose by 1.2 per cent, to £901 million, boosted primarily by increased demand for electrical products. Online sales represented 44 per cent of total sales of which mobile grew to represent 22 per cent of total sales. During the quarter Argos had opened nine trial concessions within Homebase stores as well as four smaller format stores.
Homebase had fared less well with a drop in sales for the quarter to £390 million which was attributed to the closure of six stores.
