Artigiano moves distribution off the Isle of Wight

Apparel cataloguer Artigiano is moving its stock and distribution
centre processes out of the Isle of Wight and into parent company
Scotts’ main site in Wiltshire. The move sees 35 staff at risk of
redundancy, including 10 full-time employees. All staff have been
offered the option of relocating to Wiltshire.

Artigiano has also confirmed that it is creating jobs, due to the
relocation of its call centre from its current site in Cowes to
another office on the island. Staff are invited to apply for a
further 12 permanent positions with a view to expanding the
department so that it can take not only Artigiano-related calls,
but also handle enquiries for the group’s other operations.

Late last year, fellow Isle-of-Wight based business Liz Earle, a
seller of cosmetics and skincare products, confirmed it was also
shedding jobs. A statement from the company said that “a
consolidation of roles, improvement in working processes and
effectiveness are key priorities” and as such a
consultation process was underway regarding potential job losses.

The move is part of a group-wide initiative by parent company
Avon, which will see it axe around 1,500 jobs worldwide.
Outlining its plans on 11 December, Avon confirmed it is exiting
South Korea and Vietnam in order to concentrate resources on
“high priority markets”. All told, its cost-cutting
plans are aimed at saving the company $400 million by the end of
2015.
