UK sales were up by 14 per cent at ASOS and reached £641.3 million for the three months to 28 February. The online retailer saw a 12 per cent rise in sales from Europe, 4 per cent from the USA and 20 per cent from the rest of the world. ASOS had processed 17.3 million orders overall but admitted that its average order value had fallen by 2 per cent. Trading in France and Germany had been particularly challenging.
CEO Nick Beighton commented: “Our retail gross margin guidance for the year remains. We will be increasing investment in price and marketing in the second half, particularly in France and Germany. Given the actions we are taking together with an improving US performance, we believe the group will deliver strong growth in the second half. Consequently, we remain confident that we will meet guidance for the full year.”
