Zameer Choudrey’s Bestway Group has beaten off competition to acquire the Co-operative Group’s pharmacy chain. The acquisition will boost Bestway’s annual sales to an estimated £3.4 billion. The Co-operative Pharmacy chain comprises 770 branches and achieved sales of £760 million in 2013, producing an operating profit of £33 million and employing more than 7000 staff. The Bestway Group is one of the UK’s largest privately owned companies.
