Kingfisher owned B&Q is the latest in a raft of businesses to launch its own online marketplace, carrying third parties products alongside its own ranges. The B&Q team is currently vetting prospective sellers with the goal of swiftly building an offering of over 100,000 products plus its own 40,000 item range. It has signed around 20 initial suppliers including Breville, Osram and Black & Decker on its Mirakl platformed marketplace and has stated an ambition to make millions of products available within a year or so. Suppliers will be expected to fulfil orders for their products, shipping direct to customers, and providing tracking to the marketplace site.
“At B&Q we’re focused on improving shopping experiences for our customers to make shopping with us even more convenient. Around 85 per cent of our customers’ shopping journeys start online. With the launch of the marketplace, customers can now access an even bigger choice of home improvement products online, with the convenient option to return many products at their local store, with Click & Collect options coming in time,” said B&Q CEO Graham Bell.
