The UK’s largest family-owned garden centre group has acquired Hayes Garden World in the Lake District.
British Garden Centres announced the acquisition of the well-known business, which has been operating since the early 19th century.
The acquisition means British Garden Centres now operates 73 centres nationwide, with eight stores joining the business since the beginning of the year.
The site will remain open while undergoing a “brief” transition period for rebranding and restocking, and the existing team will be retained.
Martin Capell, owner of Hayes Garden World, said: “We are delighted to be handing the reins of Hayes over from one family to another. We would like to thank our wonderful customers for their business over the decades and our loyal team, both past and present, for all their hard work, leadership, commitment, and friendship. This is an exciting time for the business, and we wish everybody involved the very best.”
Charles Stubbs, founder and director of British Garden Centres, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Hayes Garden World to the British Garden Centres family. Hayes Garden World’s reputation and commitment to quality align perfectly with our values as a family-run business. We look forward to building on its strong foundations. We are grateful to all our suppliers, customers and other stakeholders for supporting us in our continued growth.”
