Amazon has revealed that its UK sales rose by 20 per cent in 2021 to reach £23.6 billion. This is 82 per cent greater than generated pre-pandemic. The online giant was a major beneficiary from enforced store closures during the assorted lockdowns in the UK and around the world, and its popularity shows no sign of abating.
However Amazon is now coming under attack from a number of organised groups of workers around the globe who are seeking major improvements to their working conditions, pay, and benefits in the US and Europe. Sector pundits expect that Amazon will be forced to accept that unions will be heavily involved in its future employee negotiations.
