Brits prepare for hybrid working by revamping their wardrobes

On the week that Brits return to the office in force, Klarna reports that for many, preparations have been underway over the summer, with wardrobe overhauls driving a spike in sales of casual office wear.

With hybrid working now a permanent fixture for many, Klarna reveals that over two-fifths of Brits (+41 per cent) plan to wear more comfortable work clothes than they did before the pandemic, with a large majority (+58 per cent) planning to revamp their look after 18 months of working from home.

Klarna’s Shopping Index, based on online purchases in the UK from January to August, reveals that while sales for sweatpants have dropped (-55 per cent) with people returning to the office, Brits are still buying more comfortable clothes such as jersey dresses (+108 per cent) and mom/dad jeans (+43 per cent) compared to the beginning of the year.

Klarna’s data reveals that Gen Z (18-25 year-olds) are most willing to adopt comfortable workwear (+50 per cent) compared to older generations. Additionally, amongst all respondents, men (+46 per cent) were more likely than women (+36 per cent) to sport comfortable clothes when returning to the office.

Amongst Brits who are planning to get more dressed up for work, sales of ties have surged (+116 per cent), along with suits (+33 per cent), blouses (+48 per cent) and blazers (+67 per cent).

And with many Brits making the most out of the final days of summer, Klarna’s data reveals that linen dresses (+1280 per cent) and linen pants (+785 per cent) are also popular with shoppers.
