Brompton plans £100m investment

Cycle manufacturer Brompton is to apply for planning for the development of a production facility and headquarters in Ashford, Kent. The location has been selected for its easy access to Europe where the business generates a considerable percentage of its sales. In the meantime, Brompton will continue to operate from its factory in Greenford which it says will not be closed until 2030.

Brompton CEO Will Butler-Adams said: “As we face climate change, combined with poor mental and physical health in our cites, where most of the world population lie, we need to adapt. There has been a global realisation post-pandemic that we need to change how we live in our cities, to design them around the people that live in them, not the automobile.

“Brompton has a large part to play in supporting that transition, but we need to have more space to innovate and create the products of the future.”

The chosen site will be on a 100 acre area of wetland and the building itself, which has been designed by Guy Holloway, will be fully sustainable.
