Card Factory turns the corner

Gift and cards retailer Card Factory has reported a profit before tax of £11.1 million for the year ended 31st January, ’22, as compared with the £16.4 million loss for 2020/21. Revenues had increased by 28 per cent to £364.4 million.

Its store sales were up as lockdowns eased with online sales falling by 1.5 per cent. The latter was however 135 per cent on the year prior to the pandemic.

CEO Darcy Willson-Rymer commented: “We saw a steady recovery in-store performance as lockdown restrictions eased, particularly in the run-up to Christmas with store sales approaching pre-pandemic levels in this key trading period. As we reopened our stores, we saw our online performance decline slightly year on year; however, we remain greatly encouraged that our Card Factory online sales were significantly ahead of pre-pandemic levels.”
