The widely reported data breach suffered by Carphone Warehouse is understood to have placed personal data held on up to 2.4 million customers at risk, along with the encrypted credit card information for tens of thousands of customers. It transpired that hackers had targeted the IT systems which operate transactions and data warehousing for three of its brands; OneStopPhoneShop.com, e2save.com, and Mobiles.co.uk and also supports iD Mobile, TalkTalk Mobile, and Talk Mobile.
The business has since put more strident security measures in place and is investigating the incident which is one of a number to impact large retail groups around the world in recent months.
