Alongside the huge potential for quality British brands in China’s retail malls, the Chinese eCommerce market is expected to overtake the US this year and become the world’s largest source of online generated revenues. China’s eCommerce market increased at an average rate of 71 per cent from 2009 to 2012, versus 13 per cent in America. The total scale of eCommerce in China is expected to reach 3.3 trillion yuan (£348 billion) by 2015, after the total spending by Chinese consumers on online shopping reached $212.4 billion in 2012, as against the $228.7 billion in the much more mature US market.
