Ethically sourced fashion retailer, Celtic & Co. has made its second £10,000 charity donation within 12 months. Initially supporting Newquay Foodbank in December 2020, the Cornwall-based company has now chosen another charity close to their hearts, Young Lives vs Cancer, to help children and young people with cancer.
Young Lives vs Cancer, formerly known as CLIC Sargent, offer vital support to stop cancer destroying young lives. Having been faced with serious financial problems due to Covid-19 and the difficulty to raise money with face-to-face events, Young Lives vs Cancer have had to decrease their team significantly. This means that support for children in need is endangered. Celtic & Co. helps and supports this charity, so they can continue with their great work.
Celtic & Co. said it is committed to making a difference in its community and is taking its social responsibility seriously. Donating to charities in need is one aspect of the sustainable work ethic of the company. All profits from the sales of the company’s Knitted Face Mask has gone towards a charity organisation.
The companies’ members of staff voted for Young Lives vs Cancer as the beneficiary for the next donation and have collected money not only from the sales of the face mask but also through an internal Christmas jumper charity event, which was held at the end of 2020, during which almost £200 was contributed by the 80 staff members. The company also committed to direct £1 per order on Black Friday and the adjoining Saturday towards the fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer, which all led to the impressive amount of £10,000.
Last year in Cornwall, Young Lives vs Cancer supported 82 families, giving out 47 financial grants to the value of £9,170 helping families to cope with the costs of cancer. The Cancer Costs report from the charity found that families with a child on active treatment spend an extra £600 a month. 42 families from Cornwall stayed at a Young Lives vs. Cancer Homes from Home in Bristol last year. They are a slipper walk from the hospital and provides free self-catering accommodation to keep families together when they need it most. These are havens for patients and families during treatment and alleviate the financial cost of paying for alternative accommodation.
Stephanie Parker, Young Lives vs Cancer Fundraising Engagement Manager for Cornwall said: “It has been an incredibly difficult year for everyone. Cancer doesn’t stop for the Coronavirus and neither do we. We are so grateful to Celtic & Co. for continuing to fundraise during these turbulent times. Their amazing fundraising will make a massive difference for young people with cancer by helping us ensure they are getting the right support they need during these difficult times.”
“It is important to constantly raise awareness of charities in need, as they have had a very tricky year behind them. With our donation, we don’t only want to help Young Lives vs Cancer directly but want to encourage others to do the same so we can support people in need together.” adds James Williams, MD of Celtic & Co.
“Young Lives vs Cancer is a charity close to many of our hearts – especially during these difficult times.” Says Nick Whitworth, founder of Celtic & Co. “It fills Kath and me with pride to see our staff working so enthusiastically and tirelessly for a good cause. We are in the very privileged position to donate to charities where it really makes a difference.” he continues.
Kath Whitworth adds: “It’s part of our companies’ circular ethos to give back to help our community. A sustainable business model cannot exist without the purpose to do better. The last one and a half years have shown that more clearly than ever and the fashion industry must definitely do its part to improve the situation with a holistic approach. This donation can be seen as just a small gesture, but it will change the lives of many. And this is all that matters for a brighter future.”
