UK-based cataloguer/retailer Charles Tyrwhitt is planning more
international expansion with the opening of two new stores in the
US. The shirt and businesswear specialist is opening a store in
Washington DC in April and another, in New York, in May. Charles
Tyrwhitt already operates overseas with two stores in New York
and one in Paris.
The news follows the planned opening of the retailer’s ninth
London store, in Holborn, on 28th March, which will see Charles
Tyrwhitt create around a dozen new jobs. Founder Nick Wheeler
says, “We are always on the lookout for new stores but we
are not opening them for the sake of it–they have to be in key
areas for our customers.”
Charles Tyrwhitt, founded in 1986, is projecting sales of more
than £100 million this year, up from £84 million in
2011. Wheeler is unfazed by the current economic turbulence,
“We are here for the long term,” he says. “We
want to build a great business and every decision is taken with
the next 20 years in mind, not just the next three. The recession
will not last forever and our aim is to come out of it with
stores in the very best locations.”
