Express mail trains will launch in China on 1st July as part of a partnership between the China Express Association and China Railway Corporation. China’s courier sector is expanding rapidly, having delivered more than 9.2 billion packages in 2013 which was more than 60 per cent over 2012 volumes. This figure is set to grow as consumers follow global trends by increasingly ordering goods online.
Rail has become an attractive proposition for courier firms as trains are able to provide greater capacity, operate at lower cost and use less energy than trucks or aircraft. Six trains are being deployed to start with and will connect the four first-tier cities of Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
