CMA blocks Sainsbury’s-Asda merger

Much as expected the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) has blocked the proposed £10bn merger of Sainsbury’s and Asda following a lengthy examination process. The CMA has claimed that the combination of the the UK’s second and third largest supermarkets would lead to increased prices in stores, online and in petrol stations.
