Electricals retailer Comet has become the first UK retailer to
join the CashStar gifting and incentives network. Through the
partnership, Comet will enable its customers to send personalised
digital gift cards, loaded with cash, via email, Facebook or a
mobile device as an SMS message.
Eagle Eye, a mobile coupons and gift vouchers specialist, is
providing integration services with Comet’s existing POS systems
to enable in-store and online real-time validation and redemption
of the egift cards.
Comet decided to partner with CashStar in response to the
increasing demand from customers for a digital gift card service,
explains Scott Evenden, general manager, corporate sales at
Comet, adding that “With Christmas less than three months
away, enhancing the digital and mobile gift experience is one of
our top priorities.”
US-based CashStar has a retailer network of more than 250 brands
in the USA and Canada, including Pottery Barn, Staples and
Starbucks. In addition, CashStar says it’s currently the only
egifting solution to integrate with Apple’s Passbook app, which
allows consumers to store gift cards in a virtual wallet and
receive notifications on locations where they can redeem their
egifts.
