Cotton Traders, the multi-channel retail business founded by
Fran Cotton and Steve Smith back in 1987, has made the decision to outsource
its high volume order fulfilment and returns processing to Prolog.
Cotton Traders markets its leisurewear range via catalogues,
space advertising, and its Venda powered website, in addition to operating a
chain of UK retail stores. Its customers are primarily based in the UK but it
does also ship to some overseas countries. Prolog will provide all logistical
support for the retailer’s home shopping and retail operation, from its Sherwood
Park facility in Nottingham. Prolog has completely reconfigured this 4 storey
facility which has a footprint of 100,000 sq.ft , expressly for the Cotton Traders
requirement. The investment includes Dematic intelligent warehousing
mechanisation equipment to deliver the efficiencies, consistency and
flexibility that Cotton Traders demands.
Caroline Allerton, Supply chain Director at Cotton Traders
said “Prolog’s demonstrable experience in delivering service excellence aligns
with our own service oriented philosophy. This is why Prolog was the choice for
us, not only do they have the infrastructure and integrated technology we
expect from a sector leader, but their flexible results driven approach is
paramount to meet our requirements.”
Under the terms of the 8 year agreement Prolog will be
responsible for the delivery of Cotton Traders’ entire retail logistics
functions, including reverse logistics, and servicing the stock needs of over
130 stores, utilising its own transport fleet, and handle a total of some 6 million
items a year. Prolog which is understood to be the largest privately owned
outsourced service provider in the sector, runs its operations on its own
software which was originally based upon the Mailbrain solution from Sanderson
from which it bought the code some years ago.
