Cross-Atlantic Insight in brief–Zara, Halfords, and Kingfisher

According to published reports, fashion retailer
Zara is planning to launch an online store in
the US. In the UK, consumers can buy homewares via
ZaraHome.com, but the brand does not have a
website selling apparel and fashion accessories.

Halfords is pulling out from its loss-making
operations in eastern Europe this summer. The auto-accessories
retailer confirmed its intention to close seven stores trading in
the Czech Republic and Poland.

International profits at retail group Kingfisher
are up 77.8 percent to £125 million ($186 million) excluding
France, the UK, and Ireland. The company experienced strong
growth in Poland and Turkey, and a solid performance in Russia,
Spain, and Germany.
