Boston-based CSN Stores already operates more than 200 furniture
and housewares websites in the US, ranging from
Accent-Furniture-Direct.com to WritingDesksandMore.com. But now
the company has crossed the Atlantic. It launched its first
European website, CookwareEssentials.co.uk, in the UK in time for
the holiday season, and it is opening a European headquarters in
“We see this expansion as the next logical step in our
company’s evolution as we enter an entirely new
marketplace” said CEO and co-founder Niraj Shah. In the
first quarter of 2009 it will launch its second UK site, this one
selling lighting, and then it plans to introduce furniture sites.
CSN hopes to become a one-stop-shop for UK consumers, said
chairman and co-founder Steven Conine, “as we are in the
US”. CSN also plans to expand to other European countries,
with Germany most likely its next market.
Founded in 2002, CSN now employs 450 staff and has revenue of
more than £135.4 million ($202 million) a year.
