Data protection changes


Europe’s
top justice official, Viviane Reding, has urged EU leaders to follow Angela
Merkel’s lead after the German chancellor called for a swift agreement on
strict data protection rules, according to the Financial Times. Viviane Reding,
who is in charge of privacy rules, hopes the chancellor’s comments on
overhauling Europe’s data rules will create the political momentum to pass the
legislation earlier than expected
