Daunt takes top job at Barnes & Noble

James Daunt will be heading American bookseller Barnes & Noble as its chief executive following the acquisition of the bookseller by Wall Street hedge fund Elliott. The hedge fund also owns Waterstones and Foyles. It is a strong mark of confidence in Daunt who will retain his role of Waterstones chief executive alongside the new responsibility.

It is understood that Elliott paid c. £540 million for Barnes & Nobel which is expected to be delisted from the New York Stock Exchange.
