daysoft sells one billionth contact lens

daysoft, founded by Dr Ron Hamilton CBE, in Blantyre in 2001 has grown to one million customers in 93 countries. It now employs 150 people at its lone facility in Blantyre. daysoft produces and sells the world’s most affordable daily-disposable contact lens, with prices starting at 20 pence per lens.

It is the only contact lens company in the world that manufactures lenses and sells directly to customers.

In the UK a survey conducted by the Association of Optometrists found that 62 per cent of adults who wear glasses or contact lenses are “putting off” visiting an optometrist and 36 per cent are wearing out-of-date prescriptions.

Dr Hamilton said: “At daysoft, we will continue to innovate our lenses and our manufacturing process to reduce the financial burden on our customers while putting power back into their hands as we have recently done with the launch of daysoft’s website update.

“For the last 20 years, we have gotten used to being underestimated by the industry, but this milestone is a statement to other suppliers that daysoft is not going away anytime soon.”
