Debenhams improved half year results


Debenhams has announced an improvement to its results for the half year to February with group sales up by 1.6 per cent to £1.33 billion, representing a 1.3 per cent rise on a like for like basis. Online sales grew by 12.7 per cent to reach  £271.8 milion with mobile accounting for 42 per cent of online sales. There was also growth in customer taking up the click & collect option – standing at 22.1 per cent. Half year profits grew by 4.3 per cent to £88.9 million in a period which saw the retailer scale back its sale promotions and work toward improving margins. Trials with Monsoon, Mothercare and Sports Direct had also proved promising and will be extended to more stores.
