DFS Furniture has announced today that it will be temporarily closing its showrooms across the UK, which represents 181 of its 208 stores.
The Doncaster-based retailer will close its stores in England for four weeks over the lockdown period. They are set to reopen on 2 December. Welsh showrooms will reopen on Monday 9 November and Irish showrooms are set to close for six weeks, reopening on 1 December.
The company says its websites across all brands and territories remain open for business and are “performing well”.
“Based on our previous experience of lockdown we expect our online business to improve further,” a DFS spokesperson said. “This will be supported by the temporary transfer of showroom colleagues to other areas of the business, including remotely assisting customers with web purchases.”
DFS said due to “very strong” orders, it does not expect that this period of showroom closure will impact revenues and profitability over the period.
The company says its balance sheet position remains robust. And, as a result of strong trading, it currently has £300m in available cash and undrawn bank facilities.
