According to reports Dunelm is poised to acquire Worldstores. The online retailer which itself acquired flash sale business Achica last year has been loss making. Worldstores had appointed KPMG to help it find new investors as without additional funding the business would have been unable to continue to trade. The online retailer which also acquired the Kiddicare brand several years ago had received a £25 million investment last year but this proved not be sufficient to support its expansion plans.
Edinburgh Woollen Mill was also said to be in the running thought this could not be corroborated. Commentators say that Worldstores could be a good fit for Dunelm which has 150 UK stores as well a successful online division as it would be able to rapidly grow its online sales and integrate Worldstores and Achica operations. It is not known where Kiddicare fits and it could well be sold off separately by Worldstores or by its new owner when the (almost certain) deal is done.
