Glovo, a multi-category delivery player, has released ‘Glovo Delivered 2021’ its first annual report analysing user consumption habits over the past year. The data reveals global delivery trends informing consumer behaviour for the year ahead.
Drawing on data points across more than 1,300 cities worldwide, and more than 130,000 monthly local shops and restaurants on Glovo, the report highlights new emerging trends and the evolution of consumers’ needs over time. ‘Glovo Delivered 2021’ reveals:
- Convenience and last-minute shopping orders for products have increased by 63 per cent, fulfilling consumers’ needs for fast access to emergency essentials
- Demand for books, pet items and flowers is rapidly growing in particular, as city dwellers look to Glovo for more than food:
- The number of books being delivered has doubled in the last year
- Rose and tulips were the most demanded flower, spiking globally on Valentine’s Day
- Tights and sunglasses were among the most popular fashion items
- As diners seek to bring Michelin star food to their homes, orders from premium restaurants have increased by 350 per cent in the last year
- Vegan cuisine shows no sign of slowing down, as orders have increased by 71 per cent and the options offered by restaurants and stores has expanded by 58 per cent
Food trends
Looking back at orders throughout 2021, pizza, burgers and chicken were the most loved local dishes. Italian takeout was ordered the most, while Japanese and Chinese cuisines were in high demand too. However, ramen experienced the greatest growth with orders spiking more than 295 per cent compared to the previous year.
Delivering anything
From six bags of emergency ice for one Glovo customer seeing the New Year in, to book orders doubling in 2021, Alongside flowers and fashion items, products for animal lovers also ranked high on the list of the most consumed non-food products.
And finally, ‘Glovo Delivered 2021’ revealed the weirdest deliveries requested through the ‘Anything’ bubble in the app. In Georgia, a courier carried dried insects for an anaconda, while divorce papers travelled somewhere in Montenegro. And Glovo’s biggest fan made purchases worth almost 130,000€ from Spain. In Poland, a tea lover ordered 732 tea bags last year.
