Evri Group has invested £32.2 million in infrastructure, technology, automation and operations so far this financial year as it prepares for peak trading.
The company said the spend forms part of a wider £100 million investment in its network planned before the end of the financial year.
Following the investment, Evri said it can now handle 4.9 million parcels a day, around half a million more than last year. Volumes entering its network rose by almost 40 per cent during last year’s peak.
Evri operates seven national sorting hubs, 80 depots and more than 500 delivery units, and delivers to 220 destinations worldwide.
Martijn De Lange, chief executive of Evri Group, said preparing for peak was the result of investment and planning throughout the year, and that the programmes were designed to build capacity, capability and flexibility for future growth.
