EVRI opens new facility

Evri – previously known as Hermes – has opened a new £60m automated parcel hub in Barnsley. It starts with a complement of some 800 full-time staff with 80 per cent understood to have been recruited from the local area. The centre has capacity to process up to 1.1 million parcels a day, increasing Evri’s overall capacity to 4.2 million parcels a day.

Martijn de Lange, CEO, Evri commented: “This development showcases our commitment to responding to the ever-increasing demand for online shopping and yet provide a service that doesn’t cost the earth. Our continued investment to strengthen our network and infrastructure across the UK is laying the foundations for future growth, creating more employment opportunities and confirming our position as an industry leader.”

Evri says that by early 2023 more than 50 per cent of the vehicles operating from the new site will utilise bio-compressed natural gas.
