It is almost eight years since the collapse of Farepak, the hamper business which took advance instalments from consumers wanting to save towards Christmas foods and gifts. As was widely reported at the time the business failed leaving a trail of misery in its wake, because most of its customers could ill afford to lose the £400 or so they had paid in. Yet, despite this, The Insolvency Service has reported that over 11,000 former customers who were sent final dividend cheques for an average of £120 each by the liquidators, BDO, have yet to cash them. The Insolvency Service is appealing to former Farepak customers, many of whom may have changed address since the business collapsed, who have not been compensated to come forward and request a re-issue of their dividend cheque.
