Frasers swoops for JD Sports unwanted brands

Frasers Group has acquired JD Sports’ interest in a number of fashion businesses for a consideration of up to £47.5 million. The deal will see the following brands change hands:

  • Base Childrenswear
  • Brown Bag Clothing
  • Choice
  • Clothingsites
  • Cricket
  • Get the Label
  • Giulio
  • Kids Cavern
  • Missy Empire
  • Nicholas Deakins
  • Pretty Green
  • Prevu Studio
  • Rascal Clothing
  • Tessuti
  • Scotts
  • Topgrade Sportswear
  • Watch Shop

The move by JD Sports reflects the aim of new CEO Regis Schultz’ desire to to simplify the business’ branded fashion offering in order to focus on its core sports fashion brands.

For Frasers Group, which has already completed the acquisition of some of the brands, this transaction adds significantly to its growing stable of premium retail brands under the control of its CEO Michael Murray. The entire deal is expected to complete early in 2023.

Regis Schultz commented: “JD is rightly recognised for its laser focus on the customer and we are convinced that the most significant opportunities lie in the continued international development of the groups global sports fashion businesses.

“We are pleased to have agreed the sale of these attractive, but non-core, brands and I would like to express my sincere thanks to all colleagues at the businesses which form part of the transaction for their hard work and contribution to the group over the years.”
