Card Factory’s digital revenue jumped to £16 million in the six months to 31 July, but the increase was driven by its acquisition of Funky Pigeon rather than growth on its own website.
Sales on cardfactory.co.uk fell 15.5 per cent on a like-for-like basis. The group said sales excluding Funky Pigeon were broadly flat, while total revenue rose 5.3 per cent to £260.8 million.
Store sales slipped 0.7 per cent, with like-for-like sales down 2.0 per cent. Wholesale revenue increased 13.6 per cent to £18.7 million.
Adjusted pre-tax profit fell 3.8 per cent to £12.7 million. Statutory pre-tax profit, calculated on a different basis, rose to £12.3 million from £7.5 million.
Card Factory said Funky Pigeon gained 11 per cent more new customers year on year after it resumed brand and performance marketing. The retailer is bringing its two online businesses onto one technology platform and has maintained its full-year adjusted profit outlook ahead of the Christmas trading period.
