Galen Weston who built a retail empire from a struggling Canadian supermarket chain has passed away aged 80. Weston was behind the acquisition of Selfridges in 2003 followed by Brown Thomas and Arnotts in Ireland. He was related to the Weston family which controls Associated British Foods, Fortnum & Mason and the Primark chain.
