Game over for Poundworld

Poundworld administrator Deloitte has announced that all of the remaining 230 Poundworld stores will now close by August 10th after it failed to find a buyer for the chain. Some 2300 staff are affected by this latest move.

It is understood that Poundworld founder Chris Edwards had tendered an offer for 180 of the Poundworld stores which would have saved around 3000 jobs, but that this was rejected by Deloitte.

Deloitte is understood to be continuing to engage in talks with other parties about the sale of certain remaining assets.
